Calm before the storm

3 January 2012, Hockey

I’m hoping that everyone reading this managed to have a safe and relaxing break over Christmas and the New Year. I managed to get home for 10 days over the break to spend some quality time with family and friends which was mentally very refreshing. Unfortunately our program is based on the other side of the country so I don’t get to see my family in Wollongong a great deal which for me is really tough as I grew up with all my family living in the same town so I spent nearly everyday hanging out with my grandparents and my cousins.

It gets harder and harder each time to get back on that plane headed for Perth. As much as I love the place I definitely  miss my family and in particular my boyfriend Scott who is still living back home in Shellharbour. It was pretty tough saying goodbye to him this time as we both know we will only have limited time to spend together before the Olympics. But I’ve learnt to take make the most of the good times and to live one day at a time as you never know what is around the corner.

The training was pretty tough heading into the Christmas break which was good and was great to see some really competitive sessions come out of it.

However as the title suggests the Christmas break is over and as of today we are now officially beginning our full time preparation in the hunt for gold in London. I’m sure there will be plenty of tears and laughs along the way, so stay tuned to see what lies ahead.
