Men's eight cox looks to London
Transcript
Well, I suppose being the smallest guy
out of eight giants
is always an interesting challenge,
but one that I really enjoy.
My role is to be
the coach in the boat,
so I've gotta be quite technical,
gotta be very motivational
and I've gotta be really clear.
So my communication,
the way I deliver,
my tone and volume
is really important as well.
So, you know, on the one key word,
I can really unleash
a huge amount of power.
So it's quite an extraordinary
position to be in
and one that I just really enjoy,
really enjoy doing, so...
In one of our World Cup races
in Switzerland last year, 2010,
we...most of the way down the track,
we were in fourth or fifth position
and I knew we had quite a strong,
fit back end of the race, or finish.
So trying to really build
the momentum throughout the race
to be able to then get ourselves in
a good position for the sprint home
was a real challenge but one
that worked reasonably well.
We came away with a silver medal,
just fell short,
by less than a second,
to the current world champions.
So the men's eight at the moment has
got quite a good amount of momentum
and we'll be looking to take
the gold medal in London.
Cox of the Australian men's eight Toby Lister is confident the Aussies will be at their peak in time for the London Olympic Games.
