Interesting Facts

  • Introduced to the sport by his cousin at the age of 23, William Godward will make his Olympic debut five years on in London.
  • Godward represented Australia at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in both the 50m 3 position individual and pairs event, where he claimed 12th on his own and 5th with partner Ben Burge.
  • Godward won the 10m rifle, 50m rifle 3 position events at the 2011 Oceania Championships to give Australia a quota position in each event at the Olympics.
  • A host of top three finishes to kick off 2012 helped him secure selection for his first Olympic appearance in London. Godward won the 10m air rifle and the 3 position at the opening Australia Cup event of the year before claiming a 2nd and 3rd in the 10m air rifle at the next Australia Cup event.
  • Outside of his shooting commitments Godward is a practising pianist who began playing at the age of 7 and has played at the Adelaide Conservatorium of Music. After spending some time in the Czech Republic in competition, Godward fell in love with the country. He has since returned away from the pressures of competition and is beginning to the learn the Czech language.
